Senior Portraits at Port Crescent Beach
There is something truly special about photographing senior portraits at Port Crescent Beach.
As the sun begins to set over Lake Huron, the shoreline glows with warm golden light. The waves gently roll onto the sand, the breeze carries the scent of summer, and everything seems to slow down just enough to appreciate the moment. It's one of those places where memories naturally unfold—and one of my favorite locations in Michigan to photograph high school seniors.
Recently, I had the privilege of spending an evening at Port Crescent Beach State Park with six incredible young women from Cass City High School. Dressed in beautiful red, white, and blue to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday, they laughed, danced, explored the shoreline, and celebrated one of the most exciting seasons of their lives.
We captured group portraits, individual senior portraits, candid moments, and plenty of behind-the-scenes footage that perfectly reflected their personalities and friendships.
As I looked through my camera, I couldn't help but smile.
Several of these young women were only five years old the last time I photographed them.
Now they're preparing for their senior year.
Moments like these are exactly why I love being a photographer.

Why Port Crescent Beach Is Perfect for Senior Portraits
If you're looking for one of the most beautiful locations in Michigan for senior portraits, Port Crescent Beach should be at the top of your list.
Every visit feels different because the light is constantly changing. During one evening we can create a variety of completely different looks without ever leaving the beach.
Port Crescent Beach offers:
Beautiful sandy shoreline
Stunning Lake Huron sunsets
Natural dunes
Driftwood
Wide open skies
Gorgeous blue water
Soft evening light
Plenty of space to create unique portraits
It's a location that never feels crowded in photographs, allowing every senior session to feel personal and unique.

A Fourth of July Color Palette That Couldn't Have Been More Perfect
Because this session took place around Independence Day, the girls coordinated their outfits around a classic patriotic color palette.
Think:
White tops
Denim
Pops of red
Shades of blue
Casual summer fashion
The outfits complemented the beach beautifully without feeling overly coordinated. Everyone's personality still came through while creating a timeless, cohesive look across the entire group.
Those little styling details make a huge difference in photographs.

Mabel Makes Every Session More Fun
If you've followed my work for a while, you've probably met Mabel, my vintage GMC conversion van.
She's much more than transportation.
She's become part of the experience.
Throughout the evening the girls climbed inside, sat on the steps, laughed together, and used Mabel as a unique backdrop for both individual and group portraits.
Some of my favorite images weren't even posed.
They happened naturally between conversations and laughter.
Those authentic moments are often the ones families treasure most.
More Than Senior Pictures
People often ask what makes my senior sessions different.
The answer has very little to do with cameras.
Photography isn't just about taking beautiful pictures.
It's about creating confidence.
Every senior who steps in front of my camera receives guidance from start to finish.
We work together on:
Natural posing
Genuine expressions
Fashion choices
Confidence in front of the camera
Relaxing throughout the session
Highlighting each person's unique personality
Many seniors arrive saying,
"I have no idea what to do."
By the end of the session they're laughing, smiling, and telling me how much fun they had.
That's always my goal.
Watching Families Grow Is the Greatest Reward
One of the best parts of being a photographer is building relationships that last for years.
Several of these Cass City High School seniors first stood in front of my camera when they were only five years old.
Back then we were chasing giggles.
Today we're celebrating graduation.
It's one of the greatest honors to watch children grow into confident young adults and to continue documenting each chapter of their lives.
Moments like these remind me why I fell in love with photography over 25 years ago.
Group Senior Portraits Tell a Bigger Story
Senior portraits don't always have to be photographed alone.
Group sessions have become incredibly popular because they celebrate friendships that have lasted throughout childhood and high school.
These six girls have shared years of memories together.
Before everyone heads off to college, careers, or new adventures, we were able to preserve this season of friendship forever.
We photographed:
Fun group images
Individual senior portraits
Small friend groups
Walking along the shoreline
Candid laughter
Behind-the-scenes video
The combination creates an experience that's just as memorable as the finished photographs.
Every Senior Deserves Portraits That Reflect Who They Are
After photographing everyone together, we spent time creating individual portraits for each senior.
No two galleries looked the same.
Some portraits felt soft and romantic.
Others were playful and energetic.
Some highlighted dramatic Lake Huron sunsets.
Others focused on natural smiles and genuine confidence.
Every senior has their own story, and that's exactly how their portraits should feel.

Behind-the-Scenes Moments Matter Too
One of my favorite additions to senior sessions is capturing behind-the-scenes footage.
Families love seeing:
Hair blowing in the wind.
Friends cheering each other on.
Laughing between poses.
Walking barefoot through the sand.
Watching the sunset together.
These moments tell the story behind the photographs and preserve the emotions that can't always be captured in a single image.

Confidence Has Always Been My Mission
Photography has never been only about beautiful images for me.
It's about helping people see themselves differently.
Many seniors arrive worried about being photographed.
They tell me:
"I don't know how to pose."
"I'm awkward in pictures."
"I never like photos of myself."
The truth?
Almost every senior feels that way.
That's why I guide every session from beginning to end.
I'll show you where to stand, how to move naturally, where to place your hands, and how to create expressions that feel authentic—not forced.
By the end of the session, confidence replaces nervousness.
And that confidence shows in every photograph.
Your Senior Portraits Should Feel Like You
Your senior year is unlike anyone else's.
Your portraits should be too.
Some seniors love the beach.
Others love downtown streets.
Some want open fields.
Others want forests, classic cars, sports, music, dance, or small-town charm.
Every session is customized around your personality, interests, and style.
The goal isn't simply to create beautiful images.
It's to create photographs you'll still love decades from now.

Fall Is One of the Best Times for Senior Portraits at Port Crescent Beach
Although summer sessions are beautiful, fall along Lake Huron is absolutely breathtaking.
The cooler temperatures, colorful trees, and warm evening sunsets create incredible opportunities for senior portraits.
Imagine:
Golden light.
Brilliant fall colors.
Sweaters and layered outfits.
Quiet beaches.
Perfect sunsets.
Comfortable weather.
It's no surprise that fall quickly becomes my busiest season.

Limited Fall Sessions Are Now Open
Every year I intentionally limit the number of senior sessions I photograph during peak fall season.
That allows me to give every client the time and attention they deserve instead of rushing from one session to the next.
If you've been dreaming about:
Senior portraits at Port Crescent Beach
Lake Huron sunset portraits
Mabel the vintage van
Downtown Bay City
Huron County locations
Michigan fall colors
Now is the perfect time to reserve your date.
Once the calendar is full, I rarely add additional sessions.

Why Families Continue Returning Year After Year
Many of the families I photograph have trusted me for years.
I've photographed newborns, children, families, seniors, and even weddings.
Watching these Cass City High School seniors reminded me just how quickly life moves.
It feels like yesterday they were little girls running through the park.
Now they're preparing to graduate.
Photography allows us to hold onto these moments long after they've passed.
That's something I'll never take for granted.
